Last year, Emmie Deebo launched her own management company, Deebo Creatives, which, according to the artist, took over the responsibility of managing her projects, marking a new chapter in her career as she ventured into full-time self-management under her own brand.
In a statement posted on her Facebook page at the time, Deebo indicated that she would continue collaborating with Akometsi Entertainment, with the company remaining responsible for the promotion and distribution of her projects moving forward.
However, recent developments suggest that the collaboration may have come to an end, with Deebo Creatives now reportedly taking full responsibility for the artist’s management, promotion, and project distribution.
Roots Magazine understands that her latest project titled Ngozi was released through her new Deebo Creatives YouTube channel instead of the Emmie Deebo channel previously managed under Akometsi Entertainment. Observers have also noted that Akometsi did not actively promote the release of the song, further fuelling speculation surrounding the status of their working relationship.
Although Emmie Deebo has not publicly confirmed or denied reports of leaving the label, recent communication shared on her Facebook page suggests notable changes in her booking arrangements. In the statement, she advised that all performance bookings, inquiries, and communications should now be directed to updated contacts.
The notice read: “Be advised that all bookings, performance inquiries and communications should be directed to the updated contacts below.”
In 2024, Akometsi Entertainment announced that it was stepping away from the music management business in order to focus on other areas within the arts and entertainment sector.
Emmie Deebo signed with Akometsi Entertainment in 2022. She is well known for songs such as Chilipo and Kale, and has also collaborated with artists from outside Malawi, including Tanzania.
Emmie Deebo has won several major music and achievement awards, including multiple international accolades. Her confirmed award wins include:
• Best Female Artist of the Year (Southern Africa) – Zikomo Africa Awards
• Best New Female Artist – Africa – Africa Arts and Entertainment Awards
• Best Female Young Achiever / Upcoming Artist of the Year – Young Achievers Africa Awards
• Secular Musician of the Year (Female) – Entertainers of the Year Awards
